Investor.my: From Passion Project to Acquisition

Founder project, Faiz Azizan.

Investor.my launched as a personal project with no existing authority, no backlinks, and zero organic visibility in a finance/investing niche already dominated by bigger players, news portals, brokerages, and established finance blogs. There was no content system at the start: no keyword strategy, no on-page structure, and no publishing rhythm, just the intent to build something useful for Malaysian retail investors.

The starting point: near-zero organic visitors, no indexed content of note, and no domain authority to speak of.

The Strategy

1. Content

Content was built around evergreen investing and stock-market education for Malaysian retail investors, beginner-friendly explainers (how to start investing, CDS accounts, brokerage comparisons), stock-analysis pieces, and IPO breakdowns. Publishing followed a consistent cadence rather than ad-hoc posting, so the site kept accumulating indexed pages and topical depth month over month.

2. On-page SEO

  • Keyword-mapped every article before writing, one primary keyword per page, no cannibalisation across similar topics
  • Optimised title tags, meta descriptions, and header structure (H1–H3) for both search intent and click-through
  • Built internal linking between related articles (e.g. linking beginner guides to relevant stock-analysis pieces) to spread authority across the site
  • Improved page speed and mobile usability, since a large share of Malaysian investors browse on mobile
  • Added Article schema to improve how pages appeared in search results

3. Traffic growth

Period Monthly organic traffic
Month 0 (launch) ~0–50
Month 6 ~2,000
Month 12 ~8,000
Month 24 ~25,000
Month 36 (pre-acquisition) ~40,000+

Growth was compounding rather than linear, early articles kept ranking higher as domain authority built up, which made each new article rank faster than the last. All of it was built through content and SEO, with no paid-acquisition spend.

The Result: acquisition by Isaham Group (Mplus Brokerage)

The clearest proof of the SEO and content work paying off: Investor.my was acquired by Isaham Group (Mplus Brokerage), validation that the site had built real organic visibility, traffic, and credibility in the Malaysian investing space, enough to be worth folding into a larger financial platform.

What made the site attractive for acquisition:

  • A base of ~40,000+ monthly organic visitors built entirely through content and SEO, with zero paid acquisition
  • A content library of investing and stock-market education ranking for competitive Malaysian finance keywords
  • An engaged, relevant audience of retail investors, exactly the user base a brokerage-linked platform like Isaham/Mplus would want to reach

Post-acquisition, the site's traffic and content assets were folded into Isaham Group's broader platform strategy, extending the reach of everything built during the SEO phase.
