Service vertical Ecommerce SEO & Merchant Center

OilyPod is Malaysia's authorised distributor of Plant Therapy essential oils, and the country's largest Plant Therapy distributor overall. It's a non-MLM, direct-to-consumer essential-oil store competing in a noisy wellness market against MLM sellers, general marketplaces (Shopee, Lazada), and other essential-oil retailers. The site had an existing catalogue and some organic presence, but visibility wasn't matching the size of the catalogue or the brand's real authority.

Result: a 20% increase in organic traffic within 8 months.

The Challenge

The core problems the work needed to fix:

  • Product pages weren't optimised to rank for what people actually search for, product name, use case, symptom, or blend type
  • The brand wasn't clearly established as an entity in Google's eyes, searches for "essential oil Malaysia" or "Plant Therapy Malaysia" weren't consistently pulling OilyPod forward as the authority
  • The product feed and Merchant Center setup had gaps limiting how well products showed up in Google Shopping
  • Missing or incomplete schema meant Google couldn't fully understand page content (product, price, reviews, brand) to show rich results

The Strategy

1. On-page SEO

  • Rewrote and restructured title tags, meta descriptions, and headers around real search intent, product names, botanical names, and use-case searches (e.g. "essential oil for sleep," "lemon essential oil uses")
  • Improved internal linking between related products, collections, and educational content so authority flows across the site instead of sitting on isolated pages
  • Fixed on-page gaps, thin category pages, missing alt text, weak heading structure

2. Entity SEO

  • Strengthened the signals that tie OilyPod to the entities that matter for this niche: "Plant Therapy," "essential oils Malaysia," "non-MLM essential oils"
  • Kept consistent NAP (name, address, phone) across the site and external profiles (Google Business Profile, Facebook, directories) to reinforce OilyPod as a real, authoritative local business
  • Built out "About" and trust-signal content (authorised-distributor status, physical facility in Bukit Jelutong) so both users and Google get clear legitimacy signals, important in a category where MLM and grey-market sellers create noise

3. Product-page optimisation

  • Rewrote product descriptions to balance SEO keywords with genuine usage information (aroma profile, dilution guidance, safety cautions) rather than generic manufacturer copy
  • Optimised product images with descriptive alt text and consistent naming
  • Improved product-page structure, clearer botanical name, origin, shelf life, and usage sections, which helps both rankings and on-page conversion

4. Google Merchant Center optimisation

  • Cleaned up and enriched the product feed (titles, descriptions, GTIN/brand fields, categories) to match Google Shopping's requirements
  • Fixed feed disapprovals and warnings that were limiting how many products were eligible to show in Shopping
  • Aligned product titles and attributes between the website and the feed so Google could match search intent to the right product more reliably

5. Schema / technical SEO

  • Implemented Product schema (price, availability, brand, reviews) so eligible products can show rich results
  • Added Organization and BreadcrumbList schema to strengthen entity signals and improve how the site's structure is understood
  • Checked and corrected technical issues that block indexing or crawling (canonical tags, sitemap coverage, duplicate content across product variants)

The Results

Metric Before After (8 months)
Organic traffic Baseline +20%
Indexed product pages ~180 ~240
Ranking keywords (page 1–3) ~90 ~210
Google Shopping impressions ~10,000/mo ~12,000/mo
Merchant Center feed approval rate ~78% ~96%
Organic click-through rate ~2.1% ~3.4%

Eight months of compounding on-page, entity, feed, and technical work delivered a 20% increase in organic traffic, with a cleaner Merchant Center feed putting more of the catalogue in front of high-intent Shopping searchers, and stronger entity signals finally matching OilyPod's real standing as Malaysia's largest Plant Therapy distributor.
