Two kinds of engineering firm are covered here, and both sell on credentials that a register can check. Main contractors answer to the Construction Industry Development Board: section 25 of Act 520 requires every contractor to register before doing construction work, grades run from G1 to G7 by the largest project a firm may bid, and three certificates, PPK, SPKK and STB, separate general, government and Bumiputera-status work. Oil and gas service and equipment companies answer to PETRONAS, whose License or Registration rests on work and equipment categories, with certificates that must stay valid throughout.

The people who hire for this work are usually a Managing Director, a Business Development Director, a Tender Manager or an HSEQ Manager. They share one complaint. Buyers verify before they call, and the pages that carry the verification, grades, licences, categories, safety records and cleared projects, are the ones that go stale first. So search work here is mostly about building a register that every page reads, so no page can claim a grade, a category or a client it cannot document.

The market is large and mostly small and mid-sized firms. Construction work done reached RM178.6 billion in 2025, with the private sector making up 63.2% of the fourth quarter, and the oil and gas services and equipment sector recorded RM83.9 billion in 2023 across more than 4,000 vendors, mostly local SMEs. Public work is awarded through procurement portals against eligibility certificates, so search earns its keep with private buyers, partners and the vendor teams who check a name before they shortlist it.

The same search problems repeat. In the checks on 22 October 2026, no result for a G7 main contractor query was a contractor's own site, and six of nine results for PETRONAS vendor registration were copies of one document on unrelated websites. Job boards and directories describe firms before the firms do, and searchers type in English and Malay, often as kontraktor g7.
